Ellie Rebecca such a great article! I completely agree with you and felt so seen while reading your words. This is so important and I’ve always felt so quietly frustrated when I’ve been with my straight friends and they toss around the “she’s my girlfriend” phrase without realizing how it subtly belittles my relationship that is not platonic.

Thank you for writing this, if even one more person begins to see how the term girlfriend should be reserved for romantic relationships as opposed to platonic ones then we’ve moved forward in a positive direction.
