Hey Martin! Thank you for writing such a thoughtful response, I enjoyed reading it.
It is important to acknowledge that there are societies of women who do not use their bodies to attract the male gaze: lesbians and queer womxn. I also do know many straight women who reject the male gaze as well. Similarly, there are heaps of men who care nothing for the female gaze. Whether they are also in the queer community or reject this sexualization for other reasons. It might not always seem like this from the outside looking in. Especially since you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned how we monetize sex and desire in our culture.
That being said, I agree that sex sells and capitalism is happy to make money off of sex, sexuality, and all the gendered gazes! The one main difference about the male gaze is that men in power did, and still do, exploit so many women/financially benefit from this gaze. So it’s hard for me to equate the male gaze to the female gaze. I’m not saying that men don’t experience negative ramifications due to the female gaze. As genders become more equal, so does exploitation, unfortunately.
As for CFNM parties, they are a ball (pun intended) and I love that you mentioned them!
I think our society is growing into a better, more equitable place — slowly but surely. I’m glad you read my article and commented, discussions like this only move us closer in understanding each other and help create a more equal + empowered world.
Hope you have a great rest of your day!
